Tangled Concept Art, The art of review
Do you like this story?
The art of Tangled, Concept Art book review. The first time I saw the trailer, I thought the female character is very solid and she reminds me of when the first time I saw Ariel in Little Mermaid. So I did some research, little that I know that my most favorite master character designer and animator, the legend Glen Keane was the original driving force behind the film. And of course Rapunzel (female character) is indeed his design.
When I saw it in 3D, I kind of able to guess but not sure. Once I saw the sketches, then I know for that fact that she is Glen Keane's creation.
Keane is best known for his character animation at Walt Disney Studios for feature films including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan, and Tangled. Keane received the 1992 Annie Award for character animation and the 2007 Winsor McCay Award for lifetime contribution to the field of animation.
Below are some of the interior art in the book:
If you love Glen Keane artwork then you will love "The Art of Tangled." Well, there are also a lot of beautiful environmental design also.

Glen Keane
Glen Keane wanted this to be an animated movie that looked and felt like a traditional hand-drawn Disney Classic in 3D, he first had a seminar called "The Best of Both Worlds", where he, with 50 Disney animators (CGI artists and traditional artists), focused on the pros and cons of each style.
Here are some of Master Keane sketches:
The art of Tangled Book
It has 160-pages with hardcover. The book filled with the very distinctive Disney style art, featuring character designs, environment and storyboards.
I love the beautiful character sketches and there are lots of them. Some of the character artists are Jin Kim, Claire Keane, Bill Schwab who drew really expressive characters. But much of them are drawn by legendary animator Glen Keane, and they really stand out with their lively action poses.
even if you don't know any of these names and just want to know a little bit more about how this film was made, you won't be disappointed. The art, in and of itself is simply spectacular and you'll get basically a portfolio representing many different styles and viewpoints. I was often disappointed in the earlier Disney "art of" books because I simply wanted to see more - more drawings and more paintings. But this book exceeded my expectations and really packs it in.

Are there any other "art of" books, Disney or otherwise, that you would suggest for aspiring animators?
